Visit the lesser-known but stunning Dalawella Beach just east of Unawatuna — home to the famous over-ocean palm tree swing. A truly magical, Instagram-worthy moment.
Continue east to Weligama. Photograph the iconic stilt fishermen at golden hour — men balancing on wooden poles above the waves using a centuries-old fishing technique. Check in to your Weligama hotel and enjoy a beachfront dinner.
Depart from Mirissa Harbour (5:30 AM) on a whale watching boat tour. The waters off Mirissa are home to blue whales, sperm whales, orcas, and pods of spinner dolphins. Best between November and April. (Separately booked; highly recommended.)
Take a beginner surf lesson on Weligama's gentle, perfectly-formed waves — widely regarded as the best learning surf in Sri Lanka. All equipment provided; instructors available in English.
Just 10 minutes from Weligama, Mirissa is the south coast's most beautiful beach. Check in, then walk to Coconut Tree Hill — a grove of palms arching dramatically over the ocean, perfect for late afternoon photography.

Continue east along the coast to the quieter, largely undiscovered shores of Tangalle. Stop en route at Dondra Head Lighthouse — the southernmost point of Sri Lanka — for panoramic Indian Ocean views in every direction.
Explore Tangalle's long, pristine, uncrowded beaches. Visit the Rekawa Lagoon for a peaceful boat ride through mangroves, and if conditions allow, witness sea turtles coming ashore at dusk at the turtle nesting beach nearby.
A last lazy morning on Tangalle's unspoilt shores — take one final dip in the Indian Ocean, enjoy a fresh breakfast, and soak in the tranquil beauty of Sri Lanka's southern coastline before departure.
En route back to Colombo, stop at Hummanaya — Sri Lanka's largest blowhole and one of the most spectacular in Asia. When the sea conditions are right, the blowhole shoots seawater up to 25 metres into the air.
